San Diego police were investigating early Wednesday after someone posted a threatening message on social media about Patrick Henry High School, officials said.
“Some kid posted something on Instagram that was concerning,” police Sgt. Dave Yu said. He said the post was about a shooting threat.
Officers were dispatched to the campus in San Carlos shortly before 7 a.m. and they talked with school officials and school district police. They left a short time later, he said.
“It is probably being investigated but everything is business as usual,” Yu said. “The school is handling it on their end.”
In an email to parents, school Principal Ann Menna said school officials had received an email about the incident around 5:15 a.m.
“When we notified school police, we were informed that SDPD had already received the information, conducted a formal investigation with the parties involved, and believe it is safe to open campus today,” she wrote.
Menna told parents she would share more information as it becomes available. With around 2,500 students, Patrick Henry is the largest high school in San Diego.
“If you choose to keep your child at home, it will be an excused absence,” Menna wrote.
She also thanked those who reported the incident to police and school authorities.
“While police continue with their investigation, we will do our due diligence with the parties involved in the situation,” she wrote.
No other information was immediately available.
