Oceanside police are looking for a 15-year-old boy who was last seen more than two weeks ago when his mother discovered found a note he had left saying he was moving out.
Police said the boy — whom they say the family identified as Rudy Moya — was reported missing around 4 a.m. on Dec. 17 by his mother. He was described as having dark hair and brown eyes, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. According to police, Rudy was last seen on Carmelo Drive and may have gotten into a gray Toyota Camry.
Police spokesperson Tom Bussey said the department is taking the missing teen’s case seriously. There has been a lot of interest and discussion about the case on social media, he said.
“It is not something we are ignoring,” Bussey said. “It is assigned to an investigator and we have people working on it. They are actively pursuing this case. Hopefully we will come up with him.”
The department put out a news release Tuesday, seeking media attention on the case.
“An investigation was started immediately attempting to locate Rudy, including tracking his phone, going to different friends’ houses, entering him into the Mission Person System (Nationwide) and putting out a Be-on-the-Lookout (BOLO) countywide,” the news release said. “Unfortunately this has not yet helped locate Rudy.”
Police said they are in contact with the teen’s family and will update them with developments . Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Jeff Vandenberg at (760) 435-4692.
There were 261 missing person cases reported to Oceanside police in 2023, according to the department. Officials say each case is investigated based on the information or evidence obtained and risk factors involved.
