Police say such thefts have been reported in San Diego and various North County cities, including Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos and Escondido.
The thieves have mostly targeted Toyota 4Runner SUVs and Toyota TRD Pro Series trucks, according to police. The thieves work at night and target vehicles parked on the street or in parking lots.
