Two lucky Premium Bonds winners have started the year £1million richer as the winners for the January 2024 draw have been announced.
The first winner is from Warwickshire and they previously held £20,083 in Premium Bonds. They bought their winning Bond 546JZ698132 in July 2023.
The second £1million winner comes from Nottingham and holds winning Bond number 352SX574068.
They purchased the Bond in February 2019 and they previously had £49,575 invested in Premium Bonds.
Each £1 Bond has an equal chance of winning in the monthly draw. One of the £100,000 prize winners previously had just £200 in Premium Bonds.
A person can hold up to £50,000 in Premium Bonds and a saver can increase their chances of winning by purchasing more Bonds.
A person can check if they have any unclaimed prizes from any prize draw using the prize checker tool on the NS&I website or via the app.
The prize fund rate was increased from four percent to 4.65 percent from the September 2023 draw. Customers usually get a text message or email if notify them if they have won a prize.
The odds of a Bond winning in the draw are 21,000 or one with the lowest prize at £25. People often use their winnings to buy more Bonds to increase their chances of winning again.
A customer previously spoke of their frustration after they won nothing in two years questioning if they should continue with the savings scheme.
Provider NS&I said in response that the monthly prize draw is “strictly luck based” so there is “never a guarantee” of winning a prize.
The group said the odds of winning are “the same for a holder of £1 as it is for another with a maximum of £50,000”.
It added: “The only difference between them is that the holder of £50,000 has more ‘entries’ into the monthly draw.”
Even those with the top £50,000 invested may go months or years without taking home a prize.
