San Diego County is looking to hire poll workers for the March 5 primary election — and people who speak other key languages in addition to English are especially wanted.
Most sought-after are workers who speak Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese or Chinese. But there’s also a need for Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Somali and Persian (Farsi and Dari) speakers at certain vote center locations.
Applicants must be at least 18 and either a U.S citizen registered to vote in California or a permanent resident, and they must have transportation to their assigned vote center.
Poll workers are paid between $135 and $160 per day between Feb. 24 and March 4, depending on the assignment. On Election Day, they’re paid between $220 and $270 due to the longer hours.
Bilingual workers will get an extra $5 for each day at a vote center, and $10 extra on Election Day.
And all poll workers must take part in a paid two-day training, for which they’ll be paid $95 per day.
