The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of San Diego Police Department SWAT team members involved in the shooting death Tuesday of a 59-year-old man who reportedly brandished a gun in a residential neighborhood north of Scripps Ranch.
The officers are identified as Brandon Jordan, a 17-year veteran of the San Diego Police department and SWAT sniper assigned to Central Division Patrol, and Chris Lingenhol, a SWAT sniper who has been with the force for 10 years, currently assigned to patrol at the Mid City Division.
The March 25 shooting came after police responded to a 911 call of a man reportedly pointing a gun at people near Angelique Street and Cypress Canyon Road south of the Scripps Parkway. The area is known as Miramar Ranch North.

A perimeter was set up around the gunman to protect neighbors and help evacuate a pest control worker who had taken cover in his work vehicle.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, as SWAT officers approached the alleged gunman, the suspect pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers, who then fired their rifles, striking and killing the man. A handgun was found near the suspect, the Sheriff’s Office said.
As of Saturday, the man’s name has still not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Under county-wide protocol designed to prevent agencies from investigating shootings by their own officers, the homicide unit of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the police shooting.
According to sheriff’s Lt. Patrick Fox, when the homicide unit completes its investigation, it will then be reviewed by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions.
The San Diego Police Department will conduct its own administrative investigation into the officers discharging their firearms.
Anyone with information about the incident can call the sheriff’s homicide unit at (858) 285-6330 or after hours at (858) 868-3200. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
