San Diego Zoo Safari Park is offering free admission to seniors during February.
Starting Saturday, the park is waiving admission fees for visitors ages 65 and over through Feb. 28. The offer doesn’t apply to the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park.
Seniors interested in the deal must show a valid photo ID at the park’s entrance to get a one-day complimentary pass. Guests will still need to pay for parking.
A regular one-day pass for adults costs $76, while a pass for a “value day” bought online costs $72, according to the park’s website.
The 1,800-acre park, at 15500 San Pasqual Valley Road near Escondido, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The park is home to more than 3,000 animals representing more than 300 species, and boasts a botanical collection.
The first year the free-admission deal was offered to seniors was in 2020. There was a hiatus in 2021 because of COVID-19, but it resumed the following year. Typically, more than 30,000 seniors visit Safari Park in the month of February, a park official said.
And what prompted the giveaway the first year? “Seniors Free Month was created as a special way to honor and celebrate one of our most valued communities — seniors!” a spokesperson said in an email.
February is a month when other bargains are also available around the region. More than 70 museums, historic sites, gardens and other attractions in San Diego County and Tijuana offer half-off admission for up to four guests for those holding a Museum Month printed pass. The pass is available at more than 80 public libraries.
