Several northbound lanes of Interstate 15 north of Mission Valley were shut down after a person walking on the busy freeway was struck and killed early Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 1:45 p.m. on the freeway between Friars Road and Aero Drive, according to CHP online traffic logs, not long after someone reported seeing a man walking in the lane to the right of the fast lane.
The logs indicate all lanes were initially shut down. As of 3:30 p.m., three of the five lanes remained closed. The road might remain partially closed until 5 p.m.
CHP issued a traffic alert, with slow traffic stretching several miles to Interstate 805.
