A woman tried to kidnap a young child in the Santee Costco parking lot, and sheriff’s deputies were looking for the suspect, officials said.
The incident was reported shortly before 8 p.m. at the store’s parking lot on Town Center Parkway. The parents were with the child at the time, said sheriff’s Lt. Michael Pepin.
“The parents were there, but I don’t know the circumstances as to any interactions,” Pepin said.
Deputies responding to the call were told the would-be kidnapper had left before they arrived. Deputies searched nearby shopping centers and residential streets but were unable to locate the woman, Pepin said.
It was not known how old the child was or if it was a boy or a girl. No description of the woman was released.
