A man walked up to a vehicle as it was entering an apartment parking garage in University City and fired shots, killing a man and wounding another man inside the vehicle, authorities said Sunday.
Officers were sent to Nobel Drive and Lombard Place at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday regarding a report of a shooting with a male down in the street, according to Lt. Daniel Meyer of the San Diego Police Department.
“The other male was located near a car stopped in front of the entrance to an apartment parking garage,” Meyer said. “Both males were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
The man in his 30s found in the street later died from his gunshot wounds. The other victim, a 39-year-old man, was listed in stable condition, Meyer said.
Police said the victims were in a vehicle together entering the garage when the suspect, who was wearing a light-colored jacket and dark pants, walked up and began firing into the car. The gunman then fled westbound on foot.
“Based on the information gathered so far, it does appear that this was a targeted attack,” Meyer said. “There are no further details to release at this time.”
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
