SAN DIEGO—Kraig Chiles scored a hat trick with an assist, one of six multi-point scorers in a San Diego Sockers 11-6 victory over the Tacoma Stars on Sunday night at Pechanga Arena.
Tavoy Morgan and newcomer Gabriel Costa each netted two goals with an assist, as San Diego (1-0) won its 11th straight regular-season match dating back to last season.
“My first shift I scored right away, so it was an overwhelming feeling,” said Costa, “There’s no better way to start things off.”
A crowd of 2,069 cheered on longtime Sockers midfielder Brian Farber, who announced his retirement after the match. Farber, a five-time champion with the Sockers, is leaving the sport after 20 years as a professional, sixteen indoors, at the age of 41.
“I knew it was going to be an emotional night for me,” said a teary Farber, “I’m going to miss these moments, playing my (butt) off, working hard for my teammates. I didn’t care about accolades, I cared about wins, and that’s how I wanted to go out.”

Brian Farber, shown with his family, was honored during Sunday’s game.
