A 77-year-old woman who suffered trauma to her head and neck during an attack in Jamul on Friday has died, with her son jailed in connection with her death, sheriff’s officials said.
Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies discovered the gravely injured woman at her home on Hillside Estates Drive east of Campo Road Friday afternoon and determined she had been physically assaulted, said sheriff’s homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura.
The woman — later identified as Vicki Bodle — was taken to a hospital, where she died Saturday, Jarjura said.
After their investigation, deputies arrested Bodle’s 53-year-old son, Travis, at the home. No one else was at the residence. There were no other victims, Jarjura said.
Bodle was initially booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, but the allegation was changed to murder after his mother died. The motivation behind Bodle’s alleged assault remains unclear, Jarjura said.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the department’s Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477.
