Song of the Summer? Here Are 10 Contenders! Summer is around the corner — the weather is warming up, nights are getting longer, and folks are outside! By now, there is usually one particular song buzzing that everyone is dubbing the summer anthem — the song that dares not be skipped at the day parties and serves as the caption to our vacation photos.
Last year, we had songs like “Last Last” by Burna Boy or “Essence” by WizKid and Tems. However, the internet has been in a frenzy trying to find “that” song for summer 2023!
So we compiled a list of songs we think are contenders for Song of the Summer.
“Favorite Song” By Toosii
Toosii’s “Favorite Song” is a contender for Song of the Summer. Since its release, it has steadily climbed the charts, allowing Toosii to earn his first top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100. He recently tapped in with Khalid to bring a new verse to the popular song.
If that wasn’t enough, he also called on Future to put a toxic twist on the track in the “Favorite Song” (Toxic Version).
“Search & Rescue” By Drake
It’s not uncommon for Drake to provide us with the summer anthem. He has previously delivered songs like “Summer Sixteen,” “Back to Back,” and “In My Feelings.”
As Drake raps about looking for someone to take him off the map when it comes to relationships, “Search and Rescue” brings a catchy beat and lyrics we all can relate to.
“Players” By Coi Leray
Listen, you almost can’t deny the feeling of summer when you hear “Players” by Coi Leray. The classic hip-hop sample of “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash, Coi’s energy on the track, and the viral mixes from TikTok take this song to another level.
Coi earned her first Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100 with this track.
“Princess Diana (Remix)” By Ice Spice And Nicki Minaj
When the Munchkins and Barbz link up, you know the song will be a bop! Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj did just that on the “Princess Diana (Remix).” The two have given each other their flowers on the net, so it was only a matter of time before they collaborated on a track together. Both ladies brought bars and iconic lines to the single, and we can’t forget the music video.
“All My Life” By Lil Durk Featuring J. Cole
Lil Durk’s latest release featuring J. Cole has all the components of Song of the Summer. “All My Life” is an inspirational track with a positive message. When the song dropped, social media instantly gravitated towards the kids on the hook and Durk and Cole’s messaging in their lyrics. “All My Life” is the first single from Lil Durk’s highly anticipated album ‘Almost Healed.’
“Area Codes” By Kali
The gworlz are taking it! If you’re catching flights and not feelings this summer, then “Area Codes” is your summer anthem. With a catchy hook and powerful opener, you can’t help but sing along when the beat drops. Even the fellas were rapping to it, which makes sense why Kali tapped in with Luh Tyler for the remix. Not to mention, Kali scored her first-ever billboard entry with this single.
“Red Ruby Da Sleeze” By Nicki Minaj
We can always count on Nicki Minaj to put the summer on notice. On “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” Nicki brings bars and flows over a sample of Lumidee’s hit single “Never Leave You (Uh Ooh, Uh Oooh).” The visuals also scream summer as she raps behind an ocean view in her native country of Trinidad and Tobago.
“SHAKE SUMN” By DaBaby
Some would say, DaBaby has had the song of the summer for two consecutive summers, with his feature on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cash Sh*t” and “ROCKSTAR” featuring Roddy Ricch. His latest track ‘SHAKE SUMN,” seems to be no different. The video has racked up 2.6 million views on Youtube and features the iconic Jabbawockeez dance group.
“What It Is (Block Boy)” By Doechii Featuring Kodak Black
Doechii’s “What It Is (Block Boy”) featuring Kodak Black makes you want to dance or cruise windows down with your boo. The song samples Trillville’s iconic single “Some Cut” and brings the perfect mix of hip-hop and r&b.
“Put It On Da Floor” By Latto
Latto has continued to keep her foot on our necks! “Put It On Da Floor” is her latest single, and she reminds everyone she is here to stay. The song is a summer bop contender because it already has given the gworlz endless social media captions sparked from her clever punchlines and metaphors. The opening line, “Rip me out the plastic, I been acting brand new,” even started a trend on social media.
Roomies, what do you think the song of the summer is?
