San Diego’s globe-trotting explorer Albert Lin, star of the 2019 National Geographic series “Lost Cities,” is back this fall, this time in the world-premiere show “Lost Cities Revealed.”
The six-part series — the second episode premieres Thanksgiving Day on National Geographic, Hulu and Disney+ — takes Lin, who is a researcher at UC San Diego, to “some of the most remote environments on Earth,” from the jungles of Mexico and the deserts of Sudan to the mountains of Peru to mountain caves in Oman.
“Albert Lin is on a mission to unlock the secrets of lost cities and the intriguing people who inhabited them,” touts promos for the show, which is produced by National Geographic.
Lin and his team use the latest technology to unlock the secrets of archaeological sites around the world.
In the series’ first episode — “Cradle of the Maya,” which aired in September — Lin headed “deep into the Mexican jungle in search of an ancient lost city, once home to the Maya that built the great pyramid city of Palenque.”
The episode that premieres Thursday, titled “The Warrior Kings,” takes Lin to the deserts of Sudan, where he “goes in search of the lost capital city of the Kingdom of Kush, whose rulers once conquered and ruled the ancient Egyptian empire.”
Using scanning technology “never previously used for archaeology in Sudan,” Lin and his team visit “a flooded tomb beneath a 2,500-year-old pyramid and a sacred mountain believed to be the birthplace of the gods.”
Lin, known for using modern-day technology to study ancient cities, isn’t a stranger to National Geographic or its audience. He’s starred in “Lost Treasures of the Maya,” “Buried Secrets of the Bible” and “Lost Cities with Albert Lin,” in which he used laser-mapping technology to “uncover ancient cities concealed beneath the canopies of remote jungles, mountain ranges and deserts.”
Lin, 42, is a senior lecturer of mechanical and aerospace engineering at UCSD, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 2004, his master’s in 2006 and his doctorate in 2008.
The next episode of “Lost Cities Revealed” — “The Cloud Warriors” — takes Lin to Peru and airs Nov. 30.
