A 45-year-old man has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash in East County that killed a motorcyclist on Thanksgiving Day, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said Monday.
The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Sheridan Road in Campo, Officer Jared Grieshaber said in a news release.
A 26-year-old Campo man on a 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle was headed east on Sheridan, as a 2015 Jeep Wrangler was headed west on the road.
The Wrangler’s driver allowed the vehicle to drift over the double yellow lines west of Custer Road, Grieshaber said. The Jeep crashed into the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. The driver of the Jeep took off.
The next day, authorities arrested the suspected driver at his Campo home.
Grieshaber did not release the name of the man who was arrested, nor did he say what led investigators to suspect him in the crash.
The name of the motorcyclist was withheld pending family notification of his death.
