A 15-year-old Chula Vista boy was arrested on suspicion of making a threatening call to a private high school on Wednesday that prompted the campus to be put on lockdown, police said.
Mater Dei Catholic High School received the call shortly after noon from a person who threatened a shooting at the campus just west of state Route 125, according to Chula Vista police.
School security officers immediately placed the school on “secure campus,” which means no one could enter or exit the school.
Officers responded and used a drone to check out the campus. They determined there were no active threats and the lockdown was lifted shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Police identified a suspect in the case and located him in Chula Vista shortly after 3 p.m. He was arrested on suspicion of making a threatening call, said police Sgt. Anthony Molina.
The teen was not a student at Mater Dei and police believe the call was a hoax, Molina said.
Chula Vista police said its school resource officers are continuing to speak with witnesses and investigate the case.
