From 1963 to 1970, these were the 12 UK studios albums released by The Beatles: Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles for Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road and Let It Be. At various different points in their lives, the Fab Four revealed their individual personal favourites of the dozen. And here is what John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr said.
Ringo Starr – Abbey Road (1969)
Probably The Beatles album with the most famous cover, Abbey Road was the band’s penultimate record. The drummer especially liked the much-maligned Abbey Road Medley.
Ringo told Rock Cellar Magazine a couple of years ago: “For me, that would be the second side of Abbey Road. That one is my favourite because I just love all those bits and pieces that weren’t full songs that John and Paul had been working on and pulled all together — Mean Mr Mustard, Polythene Pam, and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.”
George Harrison – Rubber Soul (1965)
The quiet Beatle favoured Rubber Soul of the Beatles’ albums, according to the book This Bird Has Flown: The Enduring Beauty of Rubber Soul, Fifty Years On.
During the 1990s, George said: “Rubber Soul was my favourite album, even at that time. I think that it was the best one we made; we certainly knew we were making a good album. We did spend a bit more time on it and tried new things. But the most important thing about it was that we were suddenly hearing sounds that we weren’t able to hear before. Also, we were being more influenced by other people’s music and everything was blossoming at that time; including us, because we were still growing.”

John Lennon – The White Album (1968)
Lennon made the reveal in a 1971 interview about the break up of The Beatles a year earlier, but his quotes didn’t see the light of day until they featured in a 1984 issue of Penthouse – four years after his murder.
The late Beatle claimed Paul didn’t like The White Album as he “wanted it to be more a group thing, which really means more Paul. So he never liked that album.”
But Lennon admitted it was his favourite of the 12, adding: “I always preferred it to all the other albums, including Pepper, because I thought the music was better. The Pepper myth is bigger, but the music on the White Album is far superior, I think.”
