Authorities are trying to identify a pair accused of crashing a sports car into a parked Kia in East Village, then ramming into the Kia’s owner and driving for several blocks as he clung to the hood.
There is a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in connection with the incident, which happened shortly before midnight Jan. 8 on J Street near 11th Avenue, San Diego police and Crime Stoppers said in a news release.
According to authorities, a man was driving a Chevrolet Corvette “erratically” then slammed into the parked Kia Forte.
The Kia’s owner saw it over surveillance cameras and headed down to check on his car.
The Corvette driver tried to push his car off the Kia. As he did, a woman in the Corvette passenger seat jumped into the Corvette driver’s seat.
The Kia owner tried to exchange insurance information. But the man who had been driving the Corvette scrambled back to his car, climbed into the passenger seat and told the woman to “run over” the Kia owner, according to authorities.
Police said the woman intentionally rammed the Kia owner, who ended up on the hood of the Corvette. She drove several blocks until the victim fell off.
The Corvette continued off at a high rate of speed. The victim suffered serious injuries.
The man initially driving the Corvette was described as 25 to 35 years old, medium to heavy build, with dark, slicked back hair.
The woman was about 25 to 30 years old and thin with long, dark, curly hair and brown eyes.
The car was a blue early 2000s model Corvette C5. In the crash, it lost its headlight cover and side front fender on the passenger’s side. The car may also have white paint transfer on the front of the passenger’s side.
San Diego police asked anyone who knows the names or location of the two people from the Corvette to call the department’s Central Division at (619) 744-9536.
