To help kick-start the academic year in a more affordable way, TSB has launched a package of discounts within its student account to save customers up to £222.
Through partnerships with AnyVan, Hussle, Sky and AA, customers who open a TSB student account will now be able to access discounts across gym memberships, home entertainment, car insurance and home removals.
Carys Barnes, head of personal current accounts at TSB, commented: “With the rising cost of living being felt across the country, and particularly by young people, it is more important than ever for students to consider and plan how they will manage their money.
“They should also make the most of all the deals available to them, including through their bank.”
TSB customer data shows 40 percent of overall debit card spending among 18 to 24-year-olds is on entertainment and food and drink – and these student staples have been largely hit by rising prices.
Data from the Office for National Statistics’ shopping price comparison tool, the annual cost of a private health club or gym membership has climbed by five percent in the past year, hitting around £427.
Meanwhile, local garage car repair expenses have surged by eight percent, and the price of a hot meal in a pub has spiked by 10 percent, now standing at £11.38.
From 25 percent off breakdown cover to 35 percent off select gym memberships, TSB has introduced the following discounts to help student’s money stretch further.
The total potential annual saving could add up to £222 if all four offers are taken at market price.
TSB’s student account also offers interest-free overdrafts and five percent (AER variable) on balances up to £500 with interest paid directly into the account.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary of returning to the high street as a standalone bank, TSB recently launched a £100,000 prize draw for customers who had an account with the bank open on September 9.
Eligible TSB customers have been automatically entered into the draw and have a chance to win one of ten £10,000 cash prizes. Winners will be selected on October 18 and contacted by October 20.
