Two men suspected of carjacking were arrested after a short car chase in Fallbrook Saturday afternoon, roughly 90 minutes after armed thieves forced a woman out of her sedan near the Escondido library, a police official said.
The carjacking happened about 2:30 p.m. near the library at South Kalmia Street and East Third Avenue, Escondido police Sgt. Art Stephans said. He said two young men approached the woman, with one of them brandishing a gun. They ordered her out of her car. She complied, he said.
Sheriff’s deputies spotted the stolen car about 4 p.m. on Mission and Ammunition roads in Fallbrook, Stephans said. The driver refused to pull over, instead leading deputies on a pursuit. The chase lasted about two blocks before the driver lost control of the sedan while trying to navigate a turn and crashed, he said.
One of the men was located in the sedan and arrested. The other ran off, but was caught and arrested about a block from the crash site, Stephans said.
No further information was immediately available.
