Two passengers who were killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 near Miramar were identified as Escondido residents.
Daniel Vicente Delgadillo, 26, and Alexa Pauline Lavigne, 24, died in a crash reported March 16 just before 2:45 a.m. on the freeway near Miramar Way, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators said Delgadillo and Lavigne were riding north in a Honda Civic when the sedan rear-ended a Toyota 4-Runner, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Honda was disabled and sent into other traffic lanes, where it was then hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Both Delgadillo and Lavigne were ejected from the car and killed, county officials said.
Investigators said an Apple device alerted dispatchers to a possible crash, and emergency personnel were sent to the scene.
The 25-year-old Escondido man who’d been driving the Honda and the 22-year-old Sun City man who’d been driving the pickup were each arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
