
Authorities have publicly identified three men who died in recent weeks in crashes in the region.
The most recent of the roadway fatalities took place about 2 p.m. Sunday, when 51-year-old Michael Cammon of San Diego lost control of the Chevrolet SUV he was driving on state Route 67 in Santee, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
The northbound vehicle swerved to the right and struck a guardrail near Prospect Avenue before coming to rest next to an overpass pillar alongside the highway, the agency reported.
Border Patrol agents who happened to be driving by pulled over and removed the unconscious victim from the damaged vehicle, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. Nov. 24 on state Route 78 in Escondido, where Pablo Lopez Marin of Spring Valley was struck by an eastbound Toyota SUV while trying to run across the freeway.
Lopez, 25, died at the scene.
And on Oct. 31, Jesus Casanova of San Diego crashed a Yamaha motorcycle into a northbound Mazda SUV while heading east on Balboa Avenue, just east of Interstate 805 in Kearny Mesa, about 6 p.m., the county agency reported.
Casanova was treated at several local hospitals but died last Saturday, according to the medical examiner.
