Argos
Argos is almost midway through its plan to close 100 sites across the UK in 2023 and 2024 as part of a strategy to expand its presence in supermarkets, as opposed to the high street.
It has closed 45 stores over the last 12 months, but has opened up 25 locations inside Sainsbury’s stores.
Sainsbury’s expects to have 160 standalone stores and between 430 and 460 Argos counters inside its supermarkets by March 2024.
The two confirmed Argos store locations to be closing this year are:
- Overgate, Dundee (March)
- Kingstown, Carlisle (March)
Costa Coffee
Costa was another brand that said goodbye to a number of its branches in 2023, with seemingly more to follow this year.
Scottish coffee-lovers will be suffering heartbreak this Valentine’s Day, as the Costa Coffee in Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh, will be closing its doors for good on February 14.
A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our Costa Coffee store on Bruntsfield Place will close its doors for trade on February 14, 2024.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Customers can continue to enjoy their favourite Costa Coffee at our nearby store on Morningside Road.”
The confirmed Costa Coffee stores closing this year so far are:
- Chiswick High Road, London (by February 6)
- Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh (February 14)
