Margot Robbie likes to keep her private life and her very public career separate, and this choice very much applies to her relationship with her husband.
The Barbie actress met Tok Ackerley on the set of her WWII film Suite Française back in 2013, on which he was working as a third assistant director.
Their friendship blossomed, leading them to make a spontaneous decision to move in together the following year, along with five other friends from the film.
“We were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we all lived together?’,” the Wolf of Wall Street actress told The Guardian in 2018.
“Someone said, ‘But you don’t live in London,’ and I said, ‘I don’t live anywhere. I’ll move.’

“Three days later we signed a lease in Clapham. I didn’t even see the place.”
In a rare revelation, Robbie offered insight into the beginning of their romantic relationship during a 2016 interview.
“The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,” she said. “And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long.
“I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’ ”
Nowadays, Ackerley often coproduces projects with Robbie, including films she has starred in, like Barbie and I, Tonya.
However, his career in major film productions began as an extra in the first three Harry Potter films.
Robbie, a devoted Potterhead, spoke out about her husband’s involvement in the iconic series during a 2020 interview on The Graham Norton Show.
“My husband is in the Harry Potter movies. I know, I was like, ‘Had you told me sooner we would’ve been married very quickly,’ ” she joked.
“But he was an extra when he was a little kid—he was one of the Slytherin extras when Draco pushes some kids out of the way to see Buckbeak in the third book. He pushes my husband out of the way.”
