A 31-year-old woman accused of stabbing a man in the chest while he was asleep on a trolley in La Jolla has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Angelina Stricklen pleaded not guilty Wednesday in San Diego Superior Court.
The 21-year-old victim was sitting in a trolley car, stopped at the Nobel Drive station, when a woman attacked him around 5 p.m. Oct. 22, police said.
“The poor guy was asleep when she stood up from the seat behind him, walked over and stabbed him for no reason,” police Lt. Paul Phillips said last week.
The man suffered several stab wounds.
The woman, Phillips said, “just casually went and sat back down.”
The man exited the trolley and flagged down Metropolitan Transit System security for help. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, police said.
The woman stayed on the trolley until she exited at the UTC station on Genesse Avenue, police said.
Crime Stoppers last week released surveillance photos of the suspect and asked the public to help identify her.
Jail records show Stricklen was booked into jail Monday afternoon. During her brief arraignment Wednesday, she was ordered to remain jailed without bail.
No additional details were available.
