A woman accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley and slamming into an oncoming SUV, killing the driver, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, a California Highway Patrol officer said Tuesday.
Callers early Saturday reported a Honda Civic traveling east on westbound Interstate 8 near College Avenue. Before CHP officers could stop the car, it crashed into a Nissan Kicks about 12:45 a.m., CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
Firefighters extricated the 49-year-old woman driving the SUV. She died at a hospital. Her name was not released pending notification of her family.
Briana Michelle Contreras, 24, was arrested on suspicion of multiple felonies, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, Castro said.
