Vice President Kamala Harris traveling more as campaign heats up

(NewsNation) — Vice President Kamala Harris is becoming more active on the campaign trail as November’s general election quickly approaches.

This week, Harris will make a return visit to North Carolina — her fourth this year alone. It comes just days after she and President Joe Biden held an event in Raleigh.

Recently, Harris has taken on a higher-profile role as Biden, 81, faces criticism over his age, presidential fitness and ongoing support of Israel despite its bombardment of Gaza and the region’s humanitarian crisis.

Harris, on the other hand, is 59 years old and has called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza while also urging Hamas to release hostages it took during the militant group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

In addition, she’s been owning issues from women’s rights to voting rights and talking about other major issues in this year’s election, such as abortion access following the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Over the last month, the vice president has also upped her travel, making nearly a dozen stops.

Before going to North Carolina to tout the Affordable Care Act, Harris was in Parkland, Florida, to talk about gun violence and even made her first trip as vice president to Puerto Rico, where she spoke about its recovery following hurricanes and earthquakes.

When it comes to Harris’ personal popularity, about 38% of Americans have a favorable view of her, slightly less than Biden at 41%, according to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll from March. Meanwhile, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump was viewed favorably by 40% of those asked.

However, the poll noted that even as Democrats generally like Harris, those not in her party aren’t as fond of her. About 52% of registered voters told pollsters that they disapprove of her job performance as vice president.
